I will go so far as to suggest that.. yes, in some way he has been responsible.
If we presume to think, as Shakespeare did, that all the world’s a stage and that we are all simply players on that stage… then likely Trump had a role. Was Trump’s role a conscious, strategic move well thought out to apply pressure to Kim and force him to the peace table?
Uhh… not sure I would go that far. For one thing.. we will ultimately need some credible history to figure this out for any accuracy. I tend to want to think that if indeed Trump’s actions toward Kim in the past forced the North Korean dictator to the table it was more a happenstance result than a genius inspiration of diplomacy. Obviously I do not give credit to Trump for having such complete thoughts. His record and his misbehavior actions suggest he is incapable of strategic thinking. He’s a blunt force weapon… when that isn’t called for.
On the other hand.. if Kim Jong Un, by some amazing twist of fate, ends up being honest in all this and things settle down on the peninsula with at least a peace treaty to end the “war”… it’s sure worth the cover of TIME Magazine for Trump.
We should likely remember one thing through all this. Whatever happens or not between North and South Korea.. and the United States… short term or long term or forever, is entirely up to Kim, not Trump. Maybe Kim is also a candidate for the Nobel?

Doug….your TDS is so complete that IF Trump found the cure for every form of cancer you would insist that his kindergarten records be examined to see if he colored outside the lines.
Steve! Good to see you’re still alive and kicking, buddy!
Actually.. I think Mueller will reveal if he’s colored outside the lines or not. 🙂
It is rather laughable, from my chair. Some back-door deal has so obviously been done, it has had me screaming at the TV. Kim looks so happy, I am wondering if he has been given a mansion next to Trump’s place at Mar a Largo. No doubt he is off choosing his golf clubs now…
Perhaps you can buy anything, if you have enough money? Even a Nobel Peace Prize.
Let’s not forget the leader of Myanmar got one, and now she’s wiping out her own ethnic minorities.
Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Best wishes, Pete.
hehehe.. I very much see your point there, Pete. 🙂
From my corner….NO he deserves nothing the two leaders of the Koreas did most of the work…..give credit where credit is due…Trump deserves nothing not even a footnote. chuq
Well, yeah.. poltically I totally agree with you, chuq.

You and Doug’s scale of measurement appears to be a little short on weight based on an ancient proverb that warning, in my opinion.

Regards and good will blogging.
Well, Steve… Trump is making sure that we know he was the man who did it all. Unfortunately, in the past, when Trump has proclaimed himself just short of the nation’s Messiah, it’s been proven inaccurate. To borrow the spirit of your proverb… methinks Trump is trying to put his thumb on the scale in his favor in an attempt to “overcharge” his actual effort. Seems an applicable sin… if I were into assigning when others were indeed sinful.
it is chuq with a “Q”……I do not live life in a proverb….if there is a problem with thinking approach it as a modern day person…thank you for your cooperation. chuq
Doug,
This isn’t for publication (unless of course you wish to), but there’s a man whose work I think you would much appreciate. He has done MUCH research into Trump, from his schooling at Jesuit and Tavistock schools to his penthouse decorated with Apollo to all the campaign lies. His name is Nathan Leal and his website is http://www.watchmanscry.com. If you decide to take a look, let me know what you think 🙂
Linda
Yes, he deserves credit for the talks.
What they’ll actually amount to, it’s far too early to say.
How do you know he deserves credit for the talks?
Indeed, Doug. Could the fact that (at least it’s been reported as fact although it’s doubtful we can verify) the mountain Kim Jung un has been using to test his nukes supposedly collapsed. That might act as a deterrent 😉
Isn’t there something about Muhammad coming to the mountain? Well, if it ain’t there cause it collapsed.. where will he go? 🙂
Well, he is the president and the DPRK has never agreed to talks anywhere but the DPRK in administrations before.
Not even before they had nukes.
And we are the ones the DPRK and China signed the armistice with, not the ROK.
I mentioned the mountain months ago, Linda.
Trump deserves credit for doing his best. Don’t see what he has done wrong, and you did not point to anything. However, that said, circumstances beyond Trump’s control may or may not bring about favorable results. See my latest post.
The problem, Tom, is that Trump “doing his best” is not best for the country when his best is just blurting out what pop into his head, without thinking. Not to worry, though. If it’s proven that Trump’s name calling-war threatening to Kim was instrumental, I will give him the credit. It’s the old adage.. you throw enogh crap against the wall some is bound to stick.
Wait Doug……the leaders of North and South Korea generated lots of chatter about a Nobel Peace Prize for the main players involved. On Monday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in made clear who he thinks should get it: “It’s President Trump who should receive the Nobel Prize,” he was quoted as saying, per NPR. Moon made the comment during a Cabinet meeting, in response to a congratulatory letter from the wife of the late South Korean leader Kim Dae-jung.
Just thought I would help the conversation along…..chuq
YES! I heard that last night. Thanks for passing it in here! Although even a hint of Trump getting the Nobel is not a good conversation. Let’s presume for a moment that he WAS the only reason Kim was brought to the table… no one was fighting before, no bombs dropping on people before, no one dying before. I’m not all that sure there was even a “threat” of war, given both side are prone to exaggeration and bombastic bravado. We already had peace. So why should anyone get a “peace” prize?
I hope the president gets the Peace Prize because his predecessor got one for doing nothing more notable than running around the globe apologizing for America.
Well.. if you say so sir.
The president of South Korea thinks Trump should get the nobel peace prize.

Yep. Yet another reason for the U.S. to get outta there.
