Hell, maybe the Russians will have better luck meddling with American democracy than we’ve had recently.    -Me

Barr’s the man; Barr none!

I swear, this country’s politics is getting more and more totally nuts.  So, the Mueller thing is over and he hands it to his boss, Barr,  to determine the next step.  So we know Barr himself is a tad biased toward Trump given his previously cited written position sometime back where he asserted Mueller going after Trump for obstruction of justice was “wrong” to him.  Then Trump appoints him Attorney General… then the Mueller report is completed… then Barr submits a three page summation inside of a weekend’s review in spite of the report itself likely containing thousands of pages (which now we are being told will take “weeks” before it’s released).  Barr is truly an amazing fellow to accomplish that feat………………. or, something’s rotten in Washington D.C., which is generally not news itself to most.

Barr knows politics.. the man has been around for decades, and an AG under H.W. Bush to boot.  He certainly used the opportunity to get the first front of attention before the report is released, thus setting the continued public outcry vs. Conservative “celebration” of no collusion/no obstruction.  Obviously, Trump’s supporters don’t know for sure one way or the other what’s on Trump’s mind but they will suck all this up as some forgone conclusion of the nearly 2 year long Mueller probe.  They take their queue from Trump finding new enemy “windmills” to joust, and will follow him to the ends of the earth and beyond.  But celebrations??

Here’s a little bit of human behavioral insight.  If you were perfectly innocent and were positive you did no wrong then why dispute an investigation knowing you have no guilt?  If the investigation reveals you had no culpability anywhere you might simply shrug the whole thing off with and “I told you so!”, and move on.  But Trump has a celebration.. White House staffers have a celebration… Congressional GOP’s are celebrating.  Please tell me.. what exactly is being celebrated?  One might suggest, “We are celebrating Mueller’s report fully exonerating (incorrectly) the President!”  Well.. if the Prez had no guilt in the first place, what is there to celebrate?  Seems to me, you celebrate that you got away with something… right?  Well, one might also suggest, “The Prez is free from the cloud of an amok Mueller trying to stick something on him.”  Um.. for anything to “stick” requires formal charges and a court of law to determine guilt or innocence.  Since the Prez cannot be indicted, and can arguably pardon himself before leaving office or his replacement could, does it really matter then his guilt or innocence?  It does politically.  So are we saying all this is about politics and massaging his base rather than justice in Trump’s mind?  I’m guessin’, yep.

So we get to drag all this “shiny” nonsense around for another couple or more weeks while supposedly someone with a black marker is crossing out stuff.  Then the battles start on what we, Congress, whomever, get to see of this report… or, what’s left of the report after redaction.  After all, the people paid for the thing, we certainly are entitled.

In the meantime, schoolyard bully Trump now wants to enact his own measure of vengeance on the alleged perpetrators (he appointed) of this “illegal” president-bashing investigation.  So.. the first “get even” seems to be getting back at the entire country… he’s gonna toss out all of Obamacare… and wants to turn the GOP into the “party of healthcare”.  Yep… sure.

I came across the following from CNN’s Chris Cilizza in his email opinion.. The Point.  Rather than provide a link I’ll paste the entire text.

President Donald Trump was on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, just 36 hours removed from one of the best moments of his presidency: Attorney General Bill Barr announcing — via a letter to Congress — that special counsel Robert Mueller did not establish any conspiracy or coordination between the President’s 2016 campaign and the Russian government.

And yet, despite that clear political victory, Trump proved old habits die hard. He insisted the investigation, which was begun by the FBI and taken over by Mueller after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, was the result of some sort of targeted effort by high-ranking officials to bring him down.  Here’s the exchange:

TRUMP:“It went very high up, and it started fairly low, but with instructions from the high up. This should never happen to a president again. We can’t allow that to take place.”

REPORTER:“Do you think it reached the West Wing of the Obama White House?”

TRUMP:“I don’t want to say that, but I think you know the answer.”

As with almost all his conspiracy theories, Trump offered zero proof of his claim, which, if true, would be a massive deal. Think what he is alleging: The outgoing administration somehow targeted the incoming President simply because they disagreed with his policies. That’s a HUGE story (if true).

Trump has long harbored — and promulgated — the unproven and, to date, fact-free idea that there was (and is) some sort of “deep state” conspiracy against him. “The Deep State and the Left, and their vehicle, the Fake News Media, are going Crazy – & they don’t know what to do,” Trump tweeted last fall. “The Economy is booming like never before, Jobs are at Historic Highs, soon TWO Supreme Court Justices & maybe Declassification to find Additional Corruption. Wow!”

He doesn’t provide evidence for these claims because a) none seems to exist and b) his supporters don’t require it. Remember when Trump made a similarly outlandish claim that then-President Barack Obama had ordered his phone at Trump Tower tapped during the 2016 campaign? Trump never offered any proof of that allegation and intelligence and national security officials denied it happened. Didn’t matter. To this day, lots and lots of Trump supporters believe Obama did it.

This is who Trump is and what he does. His political ambitions were born amid a conspiracy theory (that Obama wasn’t born in the United States) and he trafficked in all sorts of conspiracy theories during the campaign and as President. That he refuses to give up the idea that Mueller, a lifelong Republican handpicked for the special counsel job by Trump appointee Rod Rosenstein, was somehow leading an Obama-inspired bureaucratic coup against him EVEN AFTER Mueller’s final report was as favorable to Trump as he could have wanted, speaks to the depths of Trump’s commitment to his conspiracies.

The Point: Trump won’t change.  But we shouldn’t let that reality get in the way of the facts. And the facts here are simply not on Trump’s side.

Conservatives are just going to believe what they want to believe because it’s Trump.  I believe what I believe because it’s America.  No.. that fat lady certainly has not yet even gotten to the stage to sing.
