Quote Of The Day

Trump is in his half-term. Maybe we can abort carrying him to full term while abortion is still legal.  -Me

The beat (or is it the beating?) goes on.

For kicks & grins (and my own sanity) I’ll be initiating with this post a repeating segment commenting on my perceptions of Trump’s advancing decline as a person, as President, and how it’s affecting the country.  In recent months I’ve made the occasional post warning my human brethren of the ravages to expect with Trump’s inevitable decline.  In no way am I making any claim that I am some sort of “Trump whisperer” (like all his supporters and defenders seem to be).  But I do have some awareness of human behaviors (reference HERE).  LINK enough to venture an opinion on the subject.  As the pressures mount for Trump he is literally going to respond like a wounded or caged animal… lashing out wildly to whomever, about whatever, most of it making little sense.  The fear is that his rage will result in events and or situations that put the nation in some sort of domestic or international jeopardy. The best is yet to come.

So, following Robert Mueller’s “retirement” speech Wednesday, in which he basically echoed his own report released nearly two months ago, Trump had another signature impromptu press gaggle on the White House lawn this last Thursday.

Hearing Mueller himself speak finally after two years of investigation tended to add a bit more credible substance to his report, released a couple months ago now.  With the idea that regarding the investigation into the alleged Trump obstruction, Mueller was punting his evidence over to Congress for further investigation and determination whether to go forward toward impeachment.  The critical part he emphasized was trying to impress upon the nation that Russia and other nations are tampering with our election process and action was needed.  The media lit up like a Christmas tree with speculation and legal talking heads about the pressure being applied to Pelosi to begin an impeachment query, and the damning claims by Mueller’s report that there’s more to the story regarding Trump, his organization, and his administration.

Trump, noticeably “perturbed” to say the least, went on a rant, Trump style, spewing out the usual lies and misdirection to a bunch of collected White House reporters.  Wednesday, immediately following Mueller’s public  message, the “official” White House statement is that “Mueller has simply confirmed, no collusion, no obstruction.”  Thursday Trump released some pent up emotion, declaring Mueller a Trump-hater because he never got appointed FBI director.  Trump then went on to declare that the Russians didn’t help him win and that he, himself, was the only person that did that.  He then continued with the same old “witch hunt” claims and deep state conspiracy.

All That Sounds Familiar.  So What?

Now, if you heard all of what Trump lamented to the press there were some clues of the pressure and rage building up inside him.  Why should that even matter to us?  Well, on any “normal” day Trump is erratic as hell.  Mueller just went on live TV to speak directly to the American public, of which a large part have not read the entire 400 page Mueller report.  Trump and his minions have been pushing the “no collusion, no obstruction” defense since the report became official.  Now the public heard it from Mueller himself…

“If we had confidence that the President had clearly not committed a crime, we would have said so.”

“While this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”

After the initial White House response immediately following Mueller’s live message the media was ablaze with the seemingly apparent confirmation and acknowledgment that Mueller had uncovered indeed, some collusion of ethical doubt in the least, and some real evidence of Trumpian obstruction.  That’s when Trump did a followup Rose Garden press gaggle that has since been replayed over and over in the media.

Most of Trump’s remarks were way off the rails more than usual, as if he were just letting loose and venting his anger… using  more falsehoods, lies, and insults.

Check the following…

Regarding Mueller’s TV message…

TRUMP: I think he is a total conflicted person. I think Mueller is a true never Trumper, he’s somebody that dislikes Donald Trump. He’s somebody that didn’t get a job that he requested that he wanted very badly and then he was appointed.  And despite that, and despite $40 million, 18 Trump haters, including people that work for Hillary Clinton and some of the worst human beings on earth, they got nothing. It’s pretty amazing.

In response to the question…  Do you believe that Russia helped you get elected?

TRUMP: No, Russia did not help me get elected. You know who got me elected? You know who got me elected? I got me elected? Russia didn’t help me at all. Russia, if anything, I think, helped the other side.  What you ought to ask is this, do you think the media helped Hillary Clinton get elected? She didn’t make it, but you take a look at collusion between Hillary Clinton and the media. You take a look at collusion between Hillary Clinton and Russia. She had more to do in the campaign with Russia than I did. I had nothing to do.

In response to the question… Do you think they’re going to impeach you? Do you think they’re …

TRUMP: I don’t see how. They can, because they’re possible allowed, although I can’t image the courts allowing it. I’ve never got into it. I never though that would even be possible to be using that word. To me, it’s a dirty word, the word impeach. It’s a dirty, filthy, disgusting word and it had nothing to do with me.  So, I don’t think so, because there was no crime. You know it’s high crimes and, not with or or, it’s high crimes and misdemeanors. There was no high crime and there was no misdemeanor, so how do you impeach based on that?  And it came out that there was nothing to do with Russia. The whole thing is a scam. It’s one of — it’s a giant presidential harassment, and honestly, I hope it goes down as one of my greatest achievements, because I’ve exposed corruption, I’ve exposed corruption like nobody knew existed.

In likely response to a question about whether he was going to investigate what staff member from the White House directed the U.S.S. John McCain be removed from Trump’s view during his visit to Japan last week.

TRUMP: Well I can’t because I didn’t know anything about it. I don’t know who did it. We’ll probably be able to find out who did it, they thought they were doing me a favor because they know I am not a fan of John McCain.  John McCain killed healthcare for the Republican Party and he killed healthcare for the nation. I disagree with John McCain on the way he handled the vet because I said you’ve go to get choice, he was never able to get choice, I got choice.  I disagreed with John McCain on the Middle East, he helped George Bush to make a very bad decision to go into the Middle East. So I wasn’t a fan of John McCain, I never will be. But certainly I couldn’t care less whether or not there’s a boat named after his father.

The Takeaways…

Trump accused Mueller of being biased against him for unsubstantiated and ridiculous reasons, and declaring Mueller and the 18 staff people in the investigation of being the “worst people in the world”… spending $40 million and finding nothing…. the usual blaming of Hillary Clinton… declaring “impeachment” as being “a dirty, filthy, disgusting word”…

That Other Threat I Alluded To In The Title?

If Trump himself made that directive to the Navy to make the U.S.S. John McCain “vanish” from Trump’s eyes while he was in Japan.. that’s one thing.  But if there are staff people trying to anticipate or control Trump’s environment, or intervene in certain events anticipating a positive Trump reaction… or even worse, there are Trump supporters within the administration willing to take unauthorized actions thinking they would be helping Trump and the cause…. that’s a big cause for worry.  We’ve already experienced Trump signing MAGA hats for troops stationed in Germany.. and as recent as Memorial Day on board the U.S.S. Wasp in Japan some troops were wearing Trump likeness patches on their uniforms.  Even Trump’s speeches to the troops are sounding more like political rallies.  Is this the politicizing of the military now?

My Conclusion

This entire Rose Garden tirade was a  perfect example of lost impulse control and school yard bully tactics.  While normally typical for Trump, the level of his vehement exasperations were above (or is it below?) the norms for him.  Just the idea of thinking the word impeachment as being a dirty, filthy, disgusting word suggests totally that he seems to be getting the message that this impeachment idea is gaining a lot more momentum in his life.  My prediction is that inside the next month.. before June is out… some of his financial data will be let out, thus exposing whatever is in there to expose…  and Congress will begin a full court press on getting the subpoenas working.  The press will not let up one bit.  I’m no election strategist, but with Trump showing some weakness now would be the time for Biden, and the rest of the candidates to start banging away at Trump to keep him on the defensive.  Trump is far from being beaten.. but he’s showing a vulnerability.

The “Let’s Investigate the Investigators” investigation by A.G. Barr… well, if that pulls out a tidbit or two, benign or not, you can expect Trump and his minions to use that to the fullest (the person who prepared the FISA report didn’t attach the paperclip properly, or something).

In the meantime, Trump is planning to meet with foreign leaders and play with his tariff punishments to the world… which is more like punishing ourselves.  It’s gonna get worse.
